Helpful Links To See What Each State Is Doing About IDT!
I thought it would be good to include a list of links that provides information on what laws are being passed, statutes, and what fines can be expected to be given for Identity Theft. Keep in mind, if you are looking for laws for this year, go to the previous year for what is in effect now. All of these websites can help you find additional information for whatever State you live in. If your State does not have Identity Theft Laws, contact your State Senators and Congressmen ASAP. This problem is not going to go away!

Are Dead People at Risk for Identity Theft?
To answer the title, YES! Many ID Thieves scan the obituaries and get the public information and open up credit cards, bank accounts, and buy things online. This is a very lucrative business. Organized crime has been involved in this type of activity for several years. The biggest problem with Identity Theft, is that it is almost impossible to catch the thieves. This is certainly less dangerous for alive people, but there is a secondary effect. We all pay for losses that these banks and credit card accrue with our fees. It would be to our advantage for these people to be caught and prosecuted. Have a great day. Stay Tuned for more information regarding Identity Theft and how you can protect yourself from it.

Senior Citizens
I used to sell insurance to senior citizens. It was a lot of fun, yet it was very depressing. I would come in their house, ask them questions, and then find out that they had been scammed. They were sold things they didn't understand and would probably never use. I went to one woman's house and her purse was stolen. She had her Medicare card in her purse. A few weeks later, she called me to ask what she should do with her accounts. Her identity was stolen and her bank account and credit cards were maxed out. She did not know what to do or where to start. In order to prevent this kind of thing, Senior citizens can do a few things. First of all, take care of your mail right away. Either shred it or keep it. Don't let it pile up. Big piles of mail equals confusion. The other thing is with your Medicare card. The account number on your Medicare card is your Social Security number. Get a photocopy of your card. On the photocopy black out every number but the last 4 digits. Put your original Mediare card somewhere safe and your photocopy in your wallet/purse. If someone were to steal your purse or wallet, your social security number would be safe. When you go to the doctor, you present your photocopied card as proof of insurance. The doctor has your information already and he/she will look at that as verification.

Lifelock Troubles
I am sure you all have heard about Lifelock's co-founder Robert Maynard Jr. has stepped down from Lifelock. What I can't figure out is some of the responses for the company. They are letting him keep his less than 10% ownership of the company and he will continue to consult in the marketing of Lifelock. I do not feel comfortable with this situation and I can't believe there wasn't more research by Todd Davis (CEO) on Mr. Maynard. According to the Phoenix New Times article, he (Robert,) was not banned from working in the credit repair field and has been involved in the stealing of his father's identity. These are major red flags. What I also find very distressing is that a lot of the other major news sources are not reporting this story. If a company is sell itself as the ultimate identity theft deterrent, then it has to live by what they sell. Well, I will be back tomorrow with a tip for senior citizens.
